Hi Karen, This was a very tricky shot; I guess these bugs camouflage with the trees so birds won’t get them. I found the cicada and shell they way you see them in the picture. It was only 3 feet off the ground so I used my tripod to get the best shot I could. The cicada stuck around about 24 hours so the next day I was able to shoot him without the shell. It is rare to find them together or to even see the bug. I live on 13 wooded acres so I find all kinds of creatures:)
