I was wondering if anyone could give me some cool tricks or anything along that line I could do with just a point and shoot camera. Something in PS maybe.......

I'm just learning to do simply stuff in PS, I really don't know what I'm doing though. Just some things to try or if anyone had a suggestion for someone just starting out. I need a dslr but for now I have to work with my stylus.
Under the "Learn" item on the menu bar above, there are some really good tutorials. Also, go to "Forums" and search on "unsharp mask" and "levels" and "curves" - do these separately, not all one search.
part 1: go take a bunch of pictures, like maybe 100. take them of everything: people, places, things. your camera has a number of settings, use them all. get down on your knees and take closeups of something on a sidewalk. shoot signs at weird angles. if it has a timer, turn it on and then get in front of it and jump up and down. just get outside and have fun...
part 2: come back inside and download all the images into a new folder. open up ps, then, open up an image and play with every menu option you can find.
part 3. pay dpc $25 so that you can upload your results to a portfolio so that the rest of us can see how much fun you're having.
It might be easier if you think of certain results you'd like to achieve or specific things you are hoping to do/looking for help with and then checking existing threads in the forum or asking specific questions. This is kind of a broad question to answer!
take a picture of yourself, as funky as you can be.
get it into ps
click on the crop tool
go up to the toolbar and change the settings to 90px and 120px
(or 120px and 90px, depending on orientation)
crop to include as much of the image as possible
click on file - save to web
make sure the quality is 100%
click save
name it something you can find without overwriting your original
go back to dpc and click my home - preferences
upload your image so we can see how funky you can be

I'm a bit suspicious about your statement that you need a dslr. Not many people really NEED a dslr... do you really print such large prints all the time that you need a DSLR? Do you really need the quality a DSLR gives you? I achieved some of my best photography with a 3MP Pentax Optio S, it's said many times here and it's true that it's the photographer and not the equipment. It's hard to give specific advice as you don't have a portfolio yet, but the PS basics which you should spend some time perfecting are Levels, Curves, Colour Balance, Channel Mixer, Hue/Saturation, USM, Gaussian Blur, Layers.

You could turn your camera upside down and take pictures with it "standing on it's head".
Welcome to dpc nidan. You may feel that you need a DSLR but your camera can do most of what a DSLR can do. Enjoy what it has to offer while you build your composition and editing skills.
