Check out the pictures from my visit. I had very little time to take pictures, but here they are: //gloda.port5.com/20040422bruxelles/20040422bruxelles.htm Near the central train station there is a cluster of museums. I don't remember the name. Something 'Royal' I think. On the way from the station to the museums, you'll probably pass under some famous clock there. At the same place there's a hill you can look down for about 100 metres. There's a statue at the top of its steps. Nearby there's a Jugendstil house, one of the last that exist. Don't forget to take shots of the atomium if you have the time!

I've not done Brussels before (though wouldn't mind doing so one day), but I've been to Paris a few times...
If you get the chance, go up the towers of Notre Dame, as it will give you a view from the centre of Paris in all directions that is IMO better than the one from the Eiffel Tower (due to its more central location), and there's some very photogenic gargoyles too ;o)
La Defense is another good place to wander round, especially if you like taking shots of unusual modern architecture (plus there's probably the Christmas market there too). Other than that, all the classic touristy places are probably worth a look, such as the Pompedu Centre, the Louvre, the Champs Elysee (and the Arc de Triumph), Sacré Coeur, etc. Oh, and there's the old roman quarter too, with narrow winding streets and hidden gems :o)
i second the roman quarter in paris, there are some great fountians and old architecture. and if you end up in that area, you should check out le cave (or somethin like that) It's a great little jazz bar. seedy upstairs, seedier downstairs, but great music.
Having been to both, I would say you will be spoiled for choice.
Brussels has it`s "Grand`Place" in the centre of the city which is a huge market square enclosed with beautiful buildings.
Brugge a few miles away is a miniature Venice with canals running through the town.It also has a mini "Grand Place". Well worth a visit, if you can manage.
I'm actually in Oostende now, only 20km from Brugge, I will check that out. :) Great tips so far!
My wife and I were based in Ostend a few years back when on a mini tour of Belgium and Holland...it has a really nice cathedral if I remember correctly ?
You will enjoy Brugge,like Paris, it`s so photogenic.
I forgot, these are two images I had in my portfolio,one is taken from my hotel window in Paris..the other is in the "mini Grand Place" in the centre of Brugge...unfortunately, it doesn`t show the horse and carriages that operate from the square taking tourists about the town.
