"There is no doubt there will be another pandemic," Klaus Stohr of the WHO Global Influenza Program said on the sidelines of a regional bird flu meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.
"Even with the best case scenario, the most optimistic scenario, the pandemic will cause a public health emergency with estimates which will put the number of deaths in the range of two and seven million," he said.
and some good news - by sometime around 2050 scientists will have figured out what makes people physically age ( this actually stops happening in very old folks and they stay looking the same ). with this they will be able to stop the aging process - say at 34 - so for the rest of your life you have the physical, and mental capabilites of a 34 year old - even when you're 95. along with this - i would imagine the immune system would stay young as well ( helping to stiffle that pandemic you mention ). of course you won't live forever - but you'll look damn good as an old person - unless of course you're already ugly...
the aging process is a genetically controlled chemical process.
also - one guy as created Super Flies ( excuse the pun ) which live three times as long as normal version of their species. he did this by making them wait longer to reproduce. it seems the reproductive process is one thing that may trigger the aging process. this is already being seen in humans ( to a degree ), but because of the long time between generations will take a much longer time to see drastic increases in human life.

As HIV/AIDS is a virus too one must assume there will come a time that it will mutate and become "airborn", enabling person to person transmission through aircons, shared space like in busses and trains. No, it,s not doom and gloom, it's a reality.
