The results of my scatter-gun approach to the yellow challenge are here. I am guessing (do to a lack of comments) that my entry was either not yellow enough, you just too boring, to get a better score.
I could not achieve the desaturation within the rules. The second version was done with two layers, removing everything but the egg yolk from the top layer...
I had fun with this particular shot. It's a little outside my normal shooting mode :)

I really like the second one (Rising Sun II). Awesome! I'm sure that would have done excellent in the challenge.
John, actually you could have achieved it with Selective color and replace color in PS. The Egg yoke would have been a little more yellow and the hand would have been just a tad blown out in areas but still totally do-able. A few curve moves would have pumped the color back up and in anyhow.

I could not achieve it this way. The lower portion of the egg yolk is taking on red from the light reflections of my hand. Getting rid of the red, or replacing it with some other color was affecting the egg yolk.
Thinking back and knowing that I wanted to achieve the desaturation on just the hand, I should have approached the photo a little differently probably...
You are right it wasn't very interesting. Keep shooting though, you had a great picture, now you just need to make the voters say wow.

Your picture was a good enough shot, but I think, like you said - the subject itself wasn't an attention grabber. I've learned with these things you have a few seconds to "wow" the viewer - if the "wow" factor isn't there, I never seem to do as well. I did REALLY like the shot that you had where you included some yellow foreground - it had more than one focal point to it that keeps the viewer's eye busy.
Here's a yellow outtake, I know this comes late, but I just firgured out how to do this, with the addition of portfolios(yeah!). Lets see if this works.
