Aurora Borealis November 7 - DPChallenge Forums

Very nice aurora display here in the S. Wisconsin area tonight:

Exposures bracketed between 5 and 30 seconds, ISO bracketed 400 to 1600. Took over 100 shots.

Yes, in eastern Minnesota too. I didn't take any photos but we've been in and out all night watching the show.

Very nice strangeghost. The Northernl Lights were out in North Dakota as well. Seems the Aurora is hard to get exposed right... what iso and f-stop did you have the best results with?

Apparently I suck at focusing:

Note: saturation levels were untouched.

Focusing on anything celestial is generally just a tad short of infinity. Using my 28-105 zoom, I zoom all the way in on a star or very distant streetlight, and focus on that, then zoom back out wide for shots.

Most of my good ones were at ISO800 for 10 to 20 seconds. The 10D rocks for stuff like this, little or no noise!

What bites I'm in Kansas and just was watching the news and they said you could see it from here, but i'm to tired to go out.

can see it here in vermont too - though not too colorful
it looks like ghosts streaming across the sky.

Kinda like those videos you see where they make the clouds move across the sky real fast, but it's in real time...

I am so glad it's cloudy tonight...lol For the past 2 nights I have been sitting out in a lawn chair with a sleeping bag and my camera... I know it sounds crazy but it was the most fun I have had in a while:) This was the first time I have ever seen the Aurora Borealis. What an awesome sight to behold.

ISO 200, 30 sec.@ f3.5. I'm off to get a full night of sleep:)
