??? There's a lot of shots in that challenge that are not panoramas - not that there's anything wrong with panoramas. They certainly meet the definition of wide.
I was very surprised at the entries for the Wide challenge. Should have just called it Panorama II (except for Wendy's shot - :-D ).
What criteria are you using to make this claim? It seems like a wild exaggeration... I just scanned the entries looking solely at the images' aspect ratios. At most, half a dozen jump out as "panoramic" using that criteria.
By definition, a horizontal panorama is "wide." Focusing on the panorama aspect ratio is focusing on form and ignoring the substance. If the subject conveys wide ... then dising an aggressive aspect ratio seems narrow [sic] minded to me. Glad2badad and I have discussed this. No bad feelings here. We just disagree.

Personally, I used the widest angle lens I have . . . which is not extreme. I tried to pick a subject that I felt was appropriate to its use - a landscape that just went on and on from my vantage point. I shot in a 2:3 ratio and fully intended to submit the image at that ratio; however, the sky was boring down to a certain point so I cropped a bit off the top, and then the balance seemed off so I cropped a bit off the bottom. Mine is slightly panoramic . . . but as PennyClick says, far from a traditional 1:2 or 1:3 ratio.
Because of the description, as a voter I came to the challenge open to finding and enjoying wide subjects or wide aspect ratios or the appropriate or creative use of wide angle lenses or any combination of these. I was not disappointed. I'm surprised that you were surprised by the entries, glad2badad.
Seemed like the easy way out to me, that's all. Harder to convey wide without an aggressive crop. I should have seen this angle myself, so kudo's to those of you that saw that approach.
There aren't a lot of challenges into which a true panorama slots naturally, but this is/was certainly one of them. I was thrilled to have a chance to practice my Drone Panoramas :-)

The fact that something is shot with an ultrawide doesn't make it "wide", and your outtake shows that perfectly. Plus, as Nam pointed out, the actual entry is super-interesting, there's a lot going on to get involved with. The outtake is just "meh"...

Yes. I didn't elaborate but I found your entry very interesting to explore; the outtake, for me, lacks any interest. So if I had to choose between the two in a challenge simply called "Wide", I would go with your entry all day.
