Here is my shopping list:
*Canon 20D
*Canon 18-55mm EF-S kit lens
*Canon 70-200mm f/4 L USM lens
*Tamrac 5277 (M.A.S.) Expedition 7 Photo Backpack - Black
*Tripod Mount Ring A for 70-200mm f/4L (this one hurts a bit, it's 120$ extra)
*Tiffen 67mm UV Haze1 Glass filter
*Sandisk 1GB Ultra II CF card
*Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens
Amounts to just under 3000$ with shipping to Iceland
What do you think about this kit? (I have 2 batteries that will work and two 256MB CF cards and a tripod)
It looks like a nice starter package. I'd replace the Tiffen filter with one made by B + W or Heliopan. The EF 70-200mm is very good glass, even at f/4. It would only make sense to match the filter quality.
Do it! The 20D is sweeter than a Georgia peach!! Course I'm partial because my new love just arrived today and I've been happily oogling it since. That and devouring the manual...
Sounds like a good kit but hold off on the tripod collar/mount ring thing. I asked about the 70-200mm lens in another thread and many folks said it just wasn't necessary. Allocate those funds to the battery grip instead.
If you can afford it I would go for the 17-85 EFs lens, and not the 18-55.
I got an 18-55 for free with mine (ordered a 17-85 kit, they ran out, so they gave me the 18-55 kit and added the other lens etc, for the same price).
Admittedly, as I have the 17-85 so would not use the 18-55 but I can not say I was impressed with the one play I had with it. Very plasticy feeling indeed.
I just impactient to recieve mine! i have ordered it and now i'm just sitting down and waiting! seems like next week i'll have mine! :)
Spend time now with the wife and kids/girlfriend/parents because once you get it, they won't see you anymore. It consumes all your free time. Gotta love it.
I ordered mine too and the 580ex flash. Now the waiting game. I'll have the flash and grip on Monday but the camera has to wait till they get them in stock again. I guess that I will just have to plug away on the 10D still... :(
I'd like to be able to use at least a monopod when shooting at the far end. I use my tripod a lot (especially when doing aurora shots and indoor setups). I guess I can use the low-grain high-iso to boost the speed a bit to skip the tripod.
Well, I went ahead and bought the kit, skipped the tripod ring and bought a B+W filter for the 70-200. Can't wait, no sleep this weekend....
sorry folks that this is on Icelandic, it´s more easier for me to write it on icelandic :D

That means the 20d is awesome. I speak icelandic, trust me.
We've had ours a week now and love it!! Couldn't wait for the weekend to be here so we could spend some time using it. Kinda drives home the fact that working for a living takes up waaay too much time.
Just for the record I had the 70-200 f/4 for a while and the lens is light enough to mount the camera on a tripod and not worry about the tripod ring, no problem.
While the 20D is probably fast enough camera, I'd seriously consider 80x CF card. How fast is the Ultra II?
Ultra II is 65x, but that doesn't always count. The size of the card matters and there is a difference between brands, and also there is a difference between cards if you're shooting in JPEG or RAW. Here's a good link for CF speeds:
//www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-7303
As you can see, the Sandisk Ultra II card 1gb is one of the fastest, and the difference between the top 10 cards or so isn't noticeable. I have two 1gb and I'm very happy about the speed.
That is great to hear Dan, I just don't like spending 130$+shipping+24.5%tax on a what seems to be a very simple over priced item. Great to know I can still use it on a tripod.
