I think it makes a pretty strong statement :) i really like the soft focus ver most of the image and the good 'sharp' focus on the foreground section of the barbed wire... I think this photo would do equally well on a dark background too... :)

I did try it with a dark background...but the wire above the shoulder seemed to blend in too much with the background and get lost. I don't know if white was a good choice or if I should have attempted a light grey to be more consistent with the skin tone.
being too consistent with the skin tone may create enough loss of contrast between the subject and the background to make it less appealing...
one way to use a dark background on this image and keep the 'punch' level up would possibly be to introduce your lighting from the left side of the frame...

But then I'd lose those shadows on the shoulder/neck...:-)
This is true, but you may also create some new shadows of interest on the right side...
Changing the lighting up will definitely change the overall impact of the image in one way or another... the quesiton is would it be better or worse? :)
I think it would look cool as a choker. If you playing with it in PS, then you should be able to adjust the size of the barbed wire layer, but thats just me,.. looks cool
Hi Kimbly -- I like the composite you've created in Photoshop. I've done a far amount of Photoshop composite work (play) so know the difficulties. The shadow on the skin is excellent. The only thing I see that might improve this composite is to try and get that barb wire to look like it is moving back into the distance the amount necessary to be going around the neck. Right now it looks a little too clean....and I don't get that feeling of depth from the wire. Of course, maybe you were going for this effect to unsettle the viewer?! :-)
i like the lighting and the contrast between soft skin and barbed wire...but to me, what was missing was one (or more) of the 'barbs' dimpling the skin for more contrast....texture....or something...
