I think the lighthouse in the St. Joseph Lighthouse in Michigan. It's about 2 1/2 hours drive around the bend of the lake from Chicago. When conditions are right, it will ice up like some of the pictures. It only happens when there is open water around the lighthouse (i.e., Lake Michigan has not iced over) and it's really cold with the wind blowing hard down Lake Michigan from out of the northwest. I have always wanted to see it, but my timing has always been wrong for a weekend drive to see it. Maybe this winter.

The piled up sheets of ice happen when, generally on a calm cold night, a thin sheet of ice forms on the lake and then the wind blows the sheet into the shore. In this short video clip of Riley and me you can watch the sheet slowly move toward the shore and break into flakes.

I grew up there. The lake is amazing in many ways. Beautiful, fun, and sometimes very dangerous.
