this is what Johanna said in the voting scale alert thread Just a reminder for new members and those just returning who may have forgotten how to use the score buttons: if you'd like to give an image a "10", you must type or click on "0". If you try to click 1 and 0, it will only count the first digit and score the image a "1".
a lot of ppl arent going to see announcements in threads ..
and from what i've read the mistake happens when people use the keyboard voting system .??.
so my suggestion is to have a 'notice' included in every image in voting so that its not going to be missed ..
of course my wording might not be the best ..

I always assume this when I see outlier 1's, whether on my own or on someone else's entry. When there are no 2's, 3's, and sometimes even no 4's, but there are one or two 1's, I say, "Assume an 10". It doesn't help your score . . . but it sure does help the attitude.
My suggestion would be—that in response to a "1" vote—a prompt appears asking the user to confirm (and prominently displaying the "one" (1) vote). At this point the user can confirm or cancel.

hey Les .. another good idea .. but my feeling is that keyboard voters need to be told how to make that vote of 10 if the 1 is a mistake .. ?? .. just a thought .. :)
I don't see what the problem is here....I can clearly see voting scale from 1 to 10 and if move my cursor onto the 10 to vote the entire 10 gets surrounded by a box-shape. Impossible to click on only the 1 of the 10 figure.
As I understand it, the problem is that some people vote using the keyboard, and if they try to type 10, only the 1 registers. I doubt it's a widespread problem because I rarely get 1s. Then again, I rarely get 10s either.

There are 3 1-votes in the Georgia O'Keeffe/Alfred Stieglitz: an Homage, none of them in the top 20. And it is full of flower shots, which are widely disliked, as are shots with an obvious painterly filter applied & there were plenty of those too.

The easiest way to ensure nobody mistakenly keyboards a "10" with a 1-vote is to eliminate 10 from the scale :-) (Runs for shelter)

Or maybe with the new code one day we could require a meaningful comment (checked after rollover) for each 1 vote, and if no such comment was made the 1 would convert to 10? :)
