My passion is definitely wildlife, but the gimball head would probably only get used about 6 times a year. However, I'm not as steady as I used to be and if it gets me better photos on those 6 times... Especially since I'm going to get a teleconverter, hoping that it works and gives me more reach.
But I'm using a monitor for everything. The monitor that I have is not too bad at all. The thing that bothers me is if I have a white background, anything that's just a tad shadowed shows up as blue on the monitor instead of a dirty white.
So my question is: Would a gimball give me better wildlife photos (less blurry, better chance of capture)? I'm going out to Nebraska to shoot the migration of the Sandhill cranes in march. Or do I do the monitor?
Opinions appreciated! I'll probably ignore the ones I don't like. ;)
I bought a Benq PD2700q for my recent PC build. Very happy with it. I can discern all the subtleties in my images. From the price listed in your link, the one you are looking at is a higher end model than what I purchased. I've never used a gimbal so I can't give you firsthand experience on that.
The gimball would help stabilize your shots, but it looks like a lot of extra crap to carry around on top of an already large camera and lens setup. Take that opinion for what it's worth, since I'm someone who has been getting smaller and lighter with my gear for travelling.
What about buying a less expensive, but usable gimball as well as the super-screen?
That is less expensive than most of the good ones. I'd been doing some searches and the wimberleys are the ones that come out on top, but they're twice as much. This one still rates pretty high. I don't think the action would be as good on anything cheaper.
I'm going for the monitor. Going to see if B&H is open yet. :)
