Please think of this as Public Service Announcement (PSA); and, in the spirit of a PSA, PLEASE KEEP PARTISAN COMMENTARIES OUT -- thank you.

What if you show up to vote next Tuesday (November 2nd) and election workers say you are not registered?

1. Make sure you are at the correct voting precinct. You can check at My Polling Place or call 1-866-OUR-VOTE for assistance.

2. If you are at the correct polling place and officials claim you are not registered, request a provisional ballot. It's your right under the law.

Please pass this on to as many people as you can.

Thank you for the PSA! It reminded me to look up absentee ballot information for my husband whose job will take him out of town on election day. To my happy surprise, I discovered he still has time to apply and vote!

some states have early voting, as well. mine (NC) has several satellite polling stations set up at various town halls, highschools, etc., until oct. 30th.

In some states (like Minnesota), you can register when you vote. You just need to bring some proof of identification and proof of address.

Thanks for this important and timely reminder. Though voting is often referred to as a "right," I believe it is actually one of the most important obligations an American citizen has.

Next Tuesday, please exercise your right to vote, and fulfill your oblication to this country.

If you are still undecided, this site may help you in your decision. Based on a questionnaire, the Q&A section will give you an indication of how well the two major candidates' positions match your own personal views. The site is run by AOL News and Time.

For best results, you should NOT check a party affiliation in the "party box." If you do so, you will only be showed your percentage match to the candidate from that party... leaving both boxes blank shows you your percentage match to both candidates.

To avoid the risk of turning this into a partisan thread, please do not post your results here.

Thanks--That's very cool. It confirmed my choice as corresponding to my issues 87% to 5%. (Notice I didn't actually post results cause I didn't tell you who got what score.)

I already sent my vote in through the mail with the absentee ballot cause I registered late and it's actually the first time I have voted an election.

83% to 7% confirming my "choice".
To be honest, I would hope to have more "choice" next time around.

Voting is a right, and you can consider it an obligation.

But to think that obligation as a citizen ends there is wrong.
If all you do to participate in this representative democracy is
cast a vote, you're missing the rest of the obligation to get
involved - even if only at a local level.

If everyone did but 1% more to get involved and make a difference,
this country could be a much better place for everyone.

Keep that in mind beyond November 2nd.

Funny this comes up. I had a patient that was bitching/complaining about the government one night about health care, etc. I finally came around to asking...Do YOU vote? Guess what the answer was...
IF YOU DON'T VOTE...NO COMPLAINING!! And that is what I told him. He continued to rant...I gave up. Just like my trying to educate people anymore. No one listens...everyone is already an expert.
