Considering that DPC is thought of as a learning web site I think it should be a requirement to list some information in the comment section of all uploaded images. This could be set up as a simple form that would have to be completed before the image was uploaded.

I am referring to information like:
Camera
Lens length
Aperture
Shutter speed
ISO setting
Distance from subject.

With so many shooters now using DSLR's this type of information would be very helpful to others by letting them know just how close you have to get to something, with a particular lens to get a shot similar to the image you are looking at.

An example:


Were you right on top of him or were you using a $10,000 lens from across town?

I hope you didn't think I was directing this to you, but it sure helps me. Now I think even I might be able to get that close, as soon as I upgrade. Was the lens at 200 or somewhere in between?

IMHO, there is an imbalance when someone uploads a picture and asks others to critique it, or make serious suggestions for improving it; but they don't bother to fill in even the most rudimentary info (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO). To begin with people can make better judgements about technical aspects if they know a little about how it was shot; and secondly, it borders on just plain rude to ask for other people's opinions when you are too lazy to spend 10-15 seconds filling in the info. I would include the lens used, and make it mandatory for challenge entries.

I agree. This information used to be hard to keep track of in film cameras, but it was almost always included in photography articles for the reader's information. Now it is so easy with EXIF data already recorded by the camera. I guess most people want to be hand fed and not reciprocate the info.

Absolutely autool.... it is frustrating not to be able to refer to the most basic exif info, especially on submissions.
