Just purchased a 35mm 1.8 DX lens. For some reason my camera is reading it as a cropped lens. There has to be a way to use it as a full frame lens. Help?
When I look through the view finder I dont see any vignettes. There's no way to over ride it?
No you won’t see the vignette because it’s picking up that it’s a DX lens and changing the camera so it performs in DX mode. If you go to the shooting menu, you can turn it off, but you may not see optimal performance since the lens is designed to work in DX mode
Shooting Menu -> Image Area -> Auto DX crop -> OFF.
Nah I get what he’s saying. My D800 overcrops when I use certain DX lenses with it.
If I were to crop out the vignetting myself in PS, I can preserve a lot more of the frame than what the D800 accomplishes on auto-DX crop mode.
Thank you. I didnt know how to explain that. A friend of mine has the 35mm so when I tried it I knew I could buy it without issues. Which is why I did it. Then when i got it i couldn't find the stupid menu combination to turn off the automatic crop of the sensor. Lol.
I really like that lens (which I use on the D500). I am curious though why you would purchase a DX lens for that body. Not to question you - but more myself - since one reason I stuck with the DX body was to avoid the need to buy all new lenses (which of course wouldn't be necessary had I kept using DX lenses).

I bought this lens for like a hundred and twenty bucks... I couldn't pass it up. That said, later down the road this lens will be shelfed once I get the full frame 35mm f/1.4. That lens was just too costly for right now. Saving up for that.
