Depends... are you speaking of the "miniature effect" either with actual tilt or faux tilt applied in post? Or other uses of tilt?
I'm definitely not a fan of the faux tilt effects for the most part, although for some scenes I've seen it pulled off quite well. Using actual tilt in-camera, my reaction again depends on the scene, and it's an effect that wears thin fairly quickly, IMO. Not something I want to look at all the time, but occasionally a cool effect.
There are other applications of tilt that don't necessarily involve the potentially jarring OOF effects, like increasing apparent DoF on a scene by tilting the plane of focus. Shift is usually used for different applications, like perspective control, or panorama stitching. |
