As  tanguera correctly remembered, I first tried out this technique a few years ago: 
Basically, I shoot the scene from opposite directions, trying to be as close to the same distance from and angle to the sign as I can, and then merge the two images.
Shooting close to midday (and in overcast conditions) helps keep the lighting the same and minimize "giveaway" shadows. |
