I can't help myself. I am happy with my score in the March FS, and got some wonderful comments, but for the life of me I don't get how my entry was the only one to score below 4 in the top 17 (I was 10th).
I was somehow privileged with both a 1 and a 3. I find that 1 to be quite the anomaly, considering the next one is in the 39th spot.
Robin, I gave the image a 5 myself, and that was entirely due to the flawless technicals. I find the image itself cloyingly preposterous, fairy-tale stuff, and I react poorly to that. Plus, according to my violin-knowledgeable advisor, the way she's handling the violin doesn't feel quite right.
This is entirely a personal reaction, and it's not meant to be a slam of your work; as I stated, I think it's very well-executed. Anyway, I'm not surprised you got a handful of "negative" votes, since I'm not the only one voting who doesn't especially care for manufactured "studio" portraits, even if the ARE shot outdoors :-)
Yup. Didn't vote, but it's just too set for me. And the head's to far to the side, the pinky goes on top of the bow, and her wrist wouldn't be bent like that on the neck of the violin. It always bugs me when I watch a TV show with a violin, but the person that's supposedly playing it has no clue what they're doing. This is a bit better than that, but still looks more like a pretend shot than a found dream.

My rant was specifically that the 1 seemed to be quite an anomaly, considering the rest of the scores. I am not complaining about my overall score, I am quite pleased with it.

Thanks Wendy, and yes, neither of us knew how to do it properly. If only I knew a violinist who would pose for me, or a violinist at all for that matter. :)

Gave you a 6, thought it was well staged and worth at least a 6 for the effort (had to be a bit chilly out there for bare arms). Congrats on your top 10!

I agree Penny. I noticed that in the “Fill The Frame” challenge there are 64 entrants and with 2 hours left I have only 29 votes. I am still in favor of every entrant being required to vote.

In an attempt to clarify or fine-tune, let me expand: I was trying to say that some people may not give a FIG about the technicals, and the image just left them cold (pun sort of intended). The only reason you got a 5 from me is that I don't believe ANY competently-executed image deserves less than that in most challenges... :-)
