Ok. Still getting ready for this wedding. The last wedding I shot was 5 years ago, and I had my canon 580ex on my 7D with a modifier. Ran everything with ttl and then I could get the shots correct the first time.

Now I have the sony a6500 mirrorless. I have 4 flashes -- 3 canon and a yongno. I can use the canon flashes, but only in manual mode. I've used the flashes in manual, but only for setup shots, not for candids at a reception.

I assume I need a TTL flash to shoot the reception/dance efficiently without missing shots because I have the flash set incorrectly.

Or do I?

For reception, I believe that TTL is going to be a near-necessity. Your subject distance is going to vary too much to rely on manual power control, especially given the grab-n-go nature of shooting a reception.

Yeah... that's what I thought. Just making sure that there wasn't something I was missing. I really don't want to spend a chunk of money on a flash. I'll probably just use the 7D with a flash and try the sony will high ISO. It would have been nice to just use one camera.

My 1cents worth is to use ttl fill flash and keep the sun behind the subjects that will even out the contrast.

Down here Blue sky days during summer can be a nightmare with the very high contrast levels
