I read it as horizontal or vertical arrangements only, which rules out a diagonal, but I don't necessarily see a requirement for the division to be strictly North/South or East/West (i.e. curved or jagged lines running top to bottom or side to side seem to be within the scope of the rules).
That said, I don't see any variance from the straight being a DQ-able offense, and instead would expect to see an answer that expresses the spirit of the rule with an allowance for the voter to decide if it's far enough outside the box to warrant lower numbers. |
