It is good to see some new faces around. I hope you stick around and become an active participant. DPC has been a round for a while now and provides us with the opportunity to challenge ourselves and improve our photo skills.
I personally joined about a decade ago but have been less active in the last couple of years. There are some great artists and photographers on the site, many with varying styles and skill levels and interests.
With regards to some of your questions....Registered users can vote and enter the Open challenges that are announced on a weekly basis. If you become a paid member, you can enter and vote on all the challenges.
Prior to entering a challenge, I recommend reading the rules and looking and the specific rules sets, as almost all challenges are time bound on when the photos are taken and entered.
Just don't focus on the voting numbers when you do submit, watch the rules and how each one is edited for submission (even I forget sometimes)
Also, any questions just ask, many helped me through the last few years and when I started I had no clue what the settings on my DLSR were nor did I know what the basic verbal language was in the camera world.. what was ISO, Shutterspeed anyway LOL! The growth potential is amazing if you work at it. I love DPC because it gets me out shooting different things that I normally would not even think about shooting otherwise.
Can't wait to see your submissions and welcome to the family! Feel free to reach out and enjoy the time here. Nice to know your new and already participated in the voting and commenting, great fresh of air to see!
Welcome aboard, Roger! Alway good to see new members... You have received good advice so far. The best thing you can do for yourself is to be active. If you have questions, start a thread and ask them. Don't be shy. There are a lot of helpful people here. Also, note that you can "join" for a month for $5.00 if you want to enter a member's challenge and test the waters.
Hi new one!
If you enter challenges, be sure that the time & date are set right in your camera, and that the images were made within the time frame of the challenge.
Those two items foul up more challenge winners with disqualifications "DQ's" than any other reason.
It may also be a good idea to read a thread about preserving the exact original image file, as several apps / programs modify or tag the original camera files when they import the files from a camera card.
It's nice to see someone new here.
Enjoy,
Welcome aboard. Participating on this site is the thing that brought my photography up to the level I wanted it to be at. I'm not always as active here as I used to be, sometimes it takes a little creative nagging from Wendy.
Hey Olivia!
Welcome! You should have your OWN welcome thread so we can give you your own welcome parade!!!
Maybe Olivia read the Forum rules (esp. #3) before posting. :-)
Welcome Olivia! Be sure to read the challenge rules before submitting -- the two biggest mistakes newcomers make is not having the date set correctly on their camera and not keeping the original file (as it comes straight from the camera) for possible validation.
