Hey there. I went about with my Canon 70D. Started noticing a shadow appearing on the left corner of the photos when viewing. The higher the exposure the larger the shadow. Any ideas? Maybe just needs to be cleaned?
Does it go the whole left side, or just the corner? When my shutter was dying, it was a shadow on one side of the image. (can't remember left or right)
I don't see any stuff where its not supposed to be. The camera is working fine and I don't see anything when I take the picture its on the photo after.
A dSLR shutter creates a slit and drags it across the frame during exposure. If the two sides of the slit are not aligned or are in some way going out os synch, this can create the "shadow" you are seeing; at least this is my best guess absent evidentiary images :-(
Look at the serial number of the last shot in the EXIF -- the image counter resets at 9999 but the numbers preceding it in the serial number will show how many times it has been reset (starts with 100).
In this case the counter has been reset nine times, so there have been about 93,000 actuations.
ETA: In thinking about it some more, the serial numbers may start with a "prefix" of 101 (not 100), so it may be eight resets and 83,000 shots ...
Good morning! Thank you for your help with this. I ended up calling Canon and sending it in to them for repairs as it is less than a year old. They found a broken shutter assembly. They replaced the shutter assembly and the focus screen... all under warranty! I sent it in on Tuesday and received it back this morning! Yay! To say the least I am very happy with Canon's service and that I have my camera back!
