Hi. I'n new to the whole photography thing. How do you know what size filter to buy for your camera? One of my camaras say 35-70mm and the other one says 24-48mm. Does this mean I can use any filter size between those two numbers, or not? Please help!
Somewhere on the surround of the lens there should be a symbol like a zero with a slash through it (couldn't paste it in here) with a number and mm next to it - mine is 49mm. The numbers you refer to are the zoom range and have nothing to do with filters. The chances are that you will need different filters for the different lenses as they have to be the exact size to screw in. Sometimes if the sizes are close you may be able to fit a filter to a different size lens using step-up or step-down rings, though I wouldn't recommend this with wide angle lenses, where you will get black marks cutting of the corners of your pictures (this is known as vignetting).
From the pictures of those cameras it doesn't look like they are meant to have filters attached. I recently saw an appliance in a shop window which has a base that you screw your camera onto (possibly attached to a tripod) which then takes large square filters on the front. Perhaps that is what you need.

I know my camera uses 49mm filters - I've got quite a few. I was trying to find out about filters for chiqui74's Kodak cameras which do not appear to have a filter thread.
I looked on the kodak website, and while my Advantix camera doesnt support filters, my DX4900 uses an adapter for lenses....maybe i can put the filters on the lenses?
