I need to look at these. I'm afraid that I started with the essays the first month they showed up and then didn't look again.
It's appropriate with the abstract expressionism challenge coming up, because I found the individual photos of Aaron Siskind rather lifeless and boring. As a group, they got more interesting.
I started out with  insteps essay and found myself in wonder at what a difference a collection makes. Some photos were wonderful on their own. Others I would have scrolled by quickly if viewed by themselves. Yet with the others they gained a life and vitality that they didn't have by themselves. I'm not saying it well, sorry.
Anyway...
I particularly liked the photo of the man holding the bag. (4th from the end, I think?). The ghosting it gets from the shadow on the left and the reflections on the right gives it a sense of movement while standing still. It's like it's breathing. |
