Absolutely. The 3 or 4 ones it would receive would kill it out of the gate.
But there are a few that might get through.
Some of the blurrier ones weren't my cup of tea, but it really does help to see things as a group. The others that I really liked helped me look at the whole group a little more open minded. That's why I like the challenges that get us out of our comfort zone both in entering and voting.
That's also why I think the 2 week time frame is a bit unfortunate. People keep saying that they're picking and choosing more now. The strength of this site, as far as learning goes, is when you enter the challenges that don't play to your strengths. Actually going out and trying the things that don't particularly interest you can give you the biggest surprises.
It wasn't the viewing of the abstract challenges that made me more open minded. It was the experimenting and being intrigued and proud of what I came up with that made me more interested in exploring others' results.

Well, I entered his work on this thread and can say with certainty that he scored many 10's. His work, and any work, is beyond the score. Sorry Snaffles, your comment has truth for sure.

Sometimes I hate it when I'm right, but for the most part, voters here favour those who play safe. Risk-takers are punished. If this weren't true, I would have a sh*tload of ribbons. That I have only 3, after 600+ entries, speaks volumes.
There is also now an innate taste of people for sharp image. It probably came through digital cameras and ways of processing to get a hyper reality. I noticed this reaction even in my modest collection of pics rated here or at 1x. Like a lot of nearsighted people, I like sharpness but not in itself.
In Mahurin case, the pictures benefit a lot from being shown one after each and not just one, separately. There is a sense of looking at life with eyes semi closed or through tears or eyes fogged by melancholia. Nothing is gratuitous in his images.True simplicity.
Seeing one by one, some images will not make such a powerful impact. There is world there - we might not have access to (fortunately), of such pain as shown in some of his images. Or his way of seeing a dog running or children playing.
It is not the blur, the monochrome, the contrast; it's the undefinable that is art at a high level.
His commissions are impressive technically but highly commercials in the vein done by a lot of talented people. If I look at the first image of the man with the hat and think that i can easily take one element away without damaging the image it is telling enough.
