I was wondering if anyone else would like to see their average score displayed as it is now AND their last 12 months' average in their Profile. That way, I would think, you can still have the average of all your time here on DPC and be able to see/show your progress as your photogrpahy is bettered and perhaps you start refining your approach to challenges. Just a suggestion of something I think might be helpful and encouraging. Be interested in seeing any feedback. Thanks!
Kylie i think that is a good idea right now (since i am a freak of photography and math) i take and right down my avgs. and then find out what my overall avg. vote is on all my pics. i think that this is a fine suggestion that way i can give my mind a rest and watch tv (or something that doesn't require thought).

Have you considered what it's going to feel like to watch that number decline? Not everyone will "improve" in the view of the ever-changing voting populace.
However, my average isn't hard to calculate...just take 4, multiple it by number of challenges, divided by number of challenges and you still get 4 :))

Yes, that's true. But I know that would still help me, and it would affect everyone equally if it's a matter of the general voting going down overall.

It's not necessarily the voting going down overall I'm concerned about. The voting for any particular style may change as well ... and some of us don't always use "likely to get highest DPC score" as the ultimate criterion in deciding which photo to submit.
I have often submitted photos which have met the challenge directly and in a way which communicated something more than just fulfillment of the assignment, but in a way which proved unpopular with voters in terms of average vote, although they are often wildly popular with a few people.
That's not to say that it mightn't be useful information, as you point out, but I felt there was an unwarranted assumption being stated (that the average would always rise), and I wanted to alert you (and the readers) to other possible scenarios : )

Very well put. Actually, I tend to not follow the tastes here, so I score lower. But I also know that my personal low scores are ALSO due to lack of skill. My own score has risen some due to 1) I have improoved a bit, and 2) I try to not submit images to challenges any longer that are truly poor photography. But yes, you're right, at a certain point, my skill would stay relatively stable and I might choose to submit images to challenges that I know are way out of line with the tastes here (although I would accept the lower resulting score, too. But I can see how it would bother some people. Thank you for the input. I appreciate it.

Good idea but why not do it on percentile since different challenges have different scores. Some ribbon winners are in the 6+ range and some are in the 8+ range. If DCP uses percentile then I believe it would be a more accurate scale to see if you are improving among your fellow DCP’ers.
