I have made my decision. But, I thought it might be instructive to review my thought process. For the National Parks challenge, I had the choice of entering a great, iconic photo from 2011. I would expect it to ribbon. Or, I could enter an image that is from the last few days that represents newest techniques and skills... applied in the field. The current image won't ribbon, but the spirit and importance of DPC to me is the motivation to go out and perform photography to improve my range, abilities and experience. I really hate the prospect of "mining the archives", although I actually did exactly that... to find an old image that could be processed to perfection with modern versions of Lightroom and Photoshop. However, I've chosen the fresh image and will be happy with whatever results occur. (I'm prepared to be disappointed.) DPC has been unique in the respect that challenges require photography in a fairly tight time frame. That hurdle represents the real world and it is an essential aspect of DPC to me.
