Just finished "Photographing the World Around You: A Visual Design Workshop' by Freeman Patterson. I thought this was great - one of the few books I've read that doesn't spend much time on the mechanics of photography but spends more time on making a good picture and putting together the visual pieces to make a emotive result. Starts with the building blocks of a composition then goes through putting them all together, evaluating the result then describes various assignments you can attempt to improve your abilty to make good pictures, not just how to stumble across something and take a picture. Would be interested to hear from other people who've read this what they thought of it and if they've done or are interested in doing any of the paired assignments
