I am having to edit some video I took of a couple events over the last week and Movie Maker just is not cutting it for what I need and I will be using the program heavily over the next week for GISHWES (the list drops Sat am and I am stoked about it) I am on trial with the After Effects from Adobe for about 7 days but its very cumbersome to learn even with the Utube tutorials, I am just considering it a newbie thing since I never used it before and it takes a while to get used to, but I also find this program way more advanced than what I need it for. That program is like for pros and serious video editing. I just want basic stuff done.. I am needing other options for video editing especially with help with the stabilization and adding text and maybe a photo or two with the video.
I think After Effects is, like its name, mainly intended for fine-tuning after the basic editing is done. Premiere is their main video editor, and they make a "lite" version (like they do for Photoshop) which should handle what you need to do, and should be fairly intuitive to use.
I work with Premiere and as said before Premiere Elements is perfect for a non super professional use.
After Effects is not an editing program, it's a compositing software and does quite different things. Edit a video with it is like running a marathon with one leg: you can do it but is much harder :)
Thank you, I have checked out the different programs and I am downloading the Premiere.. It seems that will fit me best to what I need it to do and its really reasonable priced too after the trial is over :-)
It has been years, but I bought a video capture card from Pinnacle, and it came bundled with Adobe Premier. P did everything I needed it to do, and even more. Now, with the full Adobe subscription, it is part of the package.
For editing I would imagine Premiere to be better suited than After Effects. Would look at DaVinci Resolve as an alternative.
In a similar level of software, Sony Vegas, DaVinci Resolve (there's a light weight free version). Top of the line is Avid. On the lower end and easy to use are products from Gilisoft. On the open source side, I sometimes just VirtualDub for simple cuts.
