Forget the bug spray. I too have a fear of spiders and hate roaches as well. I also hate squishing bugs (grosses me out). I solved the problem with a "Bug Vac". a small (fist sized) vacuum with an extendable, clear plastic tube. And a cover for the end after you have sucked the bug in. Then, after you catch it, you can put it someplace where you can photograph it. When finished with that, take it outside and throw it in your neighbor's yard.
