Very cool. I'm trying to figure out what is going on. Are they retreating? It appears that they are totally scared - as if she has super-powers ... is it the camera-phone they are worried about?
I apologize for not linking an article. I know it is political but I wanted to let people make their own decisions on why the content is powerful.
Two other matters- 1. I do like clever boutique photos, and
2. I knew that our police were "hyper-militarized" but these guys look like something from RoboCop- who are they expecting to show up?
I almost wonder if outfits like this almost inspire unruliness.
Here in Cleveland, we just had the HUGE Cavs parade and I know the police were intentionally somewhat passive and laissez-faire unless absolutely needed. Seemed to have a positive effect.
Yes it's a great moment captured and a real photo, it would bomb here though.
I have to agree with your comment, question is why? I love the work on this site, but sometimes very special shots are really under appreciated and scored.
I was watching the news on tv a few minutes ago: this picture was shown in an important German news program (concerning the situation in the U.S.)
It might become an icon
That's kind of the hell of it, though; The cops now are kitted up like human tanks, loaded with heavy weaponry, just aching to intimidate. And that intimidation, after all, is the purpose of boith military AND paramilitary displays, has been since the beginning of mankind I expect.

Likely expecting someone with a gun trying to shoot them!
Sad day when we need to create armies to police the streets, kinda appears like all the futuristic movies of the past coming together to create the new future.

I think it is sad that there is statistically nearly half the violent crime there was 40 years ago, but social media would have you believe it is the end of days. Similar to the situation with child abductions-far less than years ago, but the heightened alerts and constant barrage of news and facebook coverage would have you believing it is worse than ever.
All that in the context of a generation of war, not large scale conflict, but door to door urban warfare, with ied's and hostile populations- the police become an extension, using miltary surplus vehicles and weaponry/uniforms. De-escalation becomes near impossible, and you have heavily decked out riot troopers, always on camera, expecting the worst-but getting a calm lone woman in the face of it...

It just makes me continue to wonder... "WHY would any person in America... CHOOSE to be a police officer nowadays?"
For some, it could be an attempt to rectify a perceived wrong.
I know that when I was a young officer, I made a point of not wearing a firearm, lived within the community that I served, got very involved in athletic activities involving young people, organized social activities for the older folks and in some native communities, really tried to learn enough of the language to greet people and engage in small talk.
Perhaps, there are still young peoples who share the same views and intentions and who honestly believe that they can make a difference.
More power to them I say and here is hoping that things change for the better.
