So I have this gig shooting 3 photos for and article in a magazine about this artist. I shot it, and produced a few. It will run in BW. I get a call about 2 minutes ago, and the original cover shot fell through (not mine), and they want me to go and get a cover shot of the musician I already shot. The problem is: the deadline is today (monday) at 5pm.

AND THEY JUST CALLED ME RIGHT NOW!!!

I hate editors...

I need to go take a cover shot right now. wish me luck in getting something in the next hour that works!

Just make sure the editor knows you're "owed one" en lieu of the usual rush charges ... good luck!

The B & W shots are superb ! Shouldn't be a problem for you today.

WOW !!! Amazing photos! They are so good I don't see any problem you getting the cover.
Just out of curiosity, why should the cover photo be any different then those? Couldn't you pick one of those for the cover?

I see a lot of posts with "professional" shots that are kind of blah.

Not this time. These are among the best photos I've seen of this type on DPC. Really superb work. Congratulations.

Oh, and yes, editors stink. But's the editor's problem is a fantastic opportunity for you. Hope it goes well.

Damn those are good!
I'd love to take some similar shots sometime, seeing as I'm a pianist... I hope I can get them looking half as good as those!

Very nice work!

The first one would make a good cover, since it has space at the top and along the left side for the mag title and text.

Those are excellent Eric!

Out of interest, the ones with the blurred hands, particularly the one bottom left with the drum-stick-banger-thingy-whatsits .... what settings were those taken on? I love the amount of movement you got there, without it just being a blur.

Similarly, the one with the slight hand blur on the keyboard, but then the hand basically sharp (row 2, left hand pic).

Really simple.
1/8 sec exposure, flash. pop the flash at the ceiling, rear curtain sync. I instructed him to hold his head as still as possible, in order to maintain sharpness in his face.

Too funny!

AND the editor probably hates photogs who promise and then fail to come through with the "fantastic" cover shot they promised.

If you come though, s/he will LOVE you forever for saving his/her hide.
