I personally appreciate your post, Lydia, esp in the wake of the horrific San Bernardino incident, but there are so many variables. They seem to depend on people being at work in an office building, with lots of coworkers and different types of door mechanisms, handy fire extinguishers etc.
But what if those don't exist in your workplace? Like what if the door is just a simple turn-the-handle type of doorkbnob or a lever one? Then a belt is useless. If you work alone, then you're probably going to end up just another statistic - unless you have the presence of mind to grab a pair of scissors (what if there aren't any scissors around?) with which to drive through the attacker's eye into their brainstem? If they haven't already shot you dead by then...after all there are very, very few spree killers going around doing this with knives, which would mean getting VERY close. Spree killers love them guns.

We have to start somewhere... Learning how to protect ourselves, especially if we're not allowed to shoot at the people who are shooting at us to kill us.

I am certain that there are some old foggies like myself on this site that remember the "Nuclear Attack" drill.
You know the one where they told us to:
- loosen tie;
- remove glasses;
- take all sharp objects from your pockets;
- clasp your hands together and place behind your head;
- pull down on your head while bending over as far as you can; and,
- kiss your ass goodbye.
considering how many people die of various causes, a driver safety video would be more helpful, or a video about getting off your chair in the workplace every single day and walking somewhere that isn't a vending machine.

how about figuring out WHY there are such attacks.
how about examining WHY one may be a target.

This is such a sad state of affairs that there is now this much time and resources being utilized in preparing for things that shouldn't happen in the first place. Never mind that some of these "Safety Tips" are insane. Attack whomever is coming through the door????? Yeah.......I'm going to sign up to be the first one to get hurt/killed by intentionally starting the violence process. NOT!!!
