I'm traveling and wanted to enter some of my images in challenges. I have my laptop with me, loaded with CS5. Turns out, it (and Bridge) won't read my D750 raw files.
So I download the upgrades to my laptop. The .7z installer will just not work on my laptop. So I can't install the upgrades. So I download a .7z reader as recommended, and try it all again. Nope. Won't work.
So I think, maybe I can just download the latest RAW converter so my current programs can read my RAW files. And I do that. And install it. And nope, my current versions won't still won't read my raw files.
Then I try it viewing with NXView, and voila! There are my beautiful photos. And then the program crashes. So I load it again, and 30 seconds into viewING my photos, it crashes again. It just keeps crashing.
Finally, out of frustration, I decide to try the CC. Get on the site, fill out the form, process the payment, and when it gets to the confirm button, I click on it. I get the "don't go back or touch anything because it might result in a double order". The spinning thing spins, there's a moment of blank screen, and then the page starts to load again. The exact same page. With the confirm button on the bottom. The one I'm not suppose to click twice. Now what? So, I click again. Same thing, same result. I click a third time...
It just keeps taking me back to the same page. I have no idea if the order went through. Luckily, there's a phone number at the top of the page. So I call it. Did I mention I'm in the middle of nowhere...?
The call gets dropped. I call again, get a broken message about calling during business hours...
Oh, and of course, I've been in Zion National Park, and have an entry for Landscape....
But you write so well...sounds like the first chapter of a good book!
Do you shoot only RAW... ie: do you have or could you take some jpegs? You're on vacation after all!
Anyway that's what I've done when all else fails. My laptop wouldn't open the RAW files in CS6 from my little Olympus the last time I needed it, though it does just fine here at home on my desktop.
Adobe has been more than a bit of a mess of late. I love their stuff, but they inspire no confidence with the latest LR debacle.
You should be able to use the DNG converter with CS5. PITA to keep two copies of the RAW files around for this place, but it should get you going.
I've downloaded the converter. I've installed it. I've rebooted. And still, neither Bridge nor PS can read my raw files.
The thing is I'm on vacation. With my sweetie. If I wanted to sit in my room and deal with this all day, I might be able to send one of my files to one of you guys (THAT would take all day because the only program I have that can read them crashes every 20 seconds and I haven't selected the file I want to enter...). It looks like this challenge (tailor made for my travels) will either go unentered, or with on of my D90 images, none of which I feel is "worthy".

I might try shooting with jpg as well, see if I can get any decent shots today. I'm out of time.
tanguera, I sympathize with you! A while back something quite similar happened with my files, and after trying fruitlessly to navigate the problem, I consoled myself with some unladylike and rude comments, and simply when back to JPEG.
Life's too short to jump through the hoops when these folks decide to change their programs again and again with little regard for their clients.
Irfanview is fast to download, works on any machine, will convert any of your Nikon files to TIFF for CS5 to use. Wonderful program, free.
Do they have a 32-bit version? Old laptop...
It will work on any version of Windows from W'95 to the present. It's really great -- as a current Mac user it (and Autostitch) are the two Windows programs I really miss ... I have them on a USB stick so I can take them to the library and run them there (they both work can without being "installed") ...
Well, I entered a placeholder earlier today, hoping I'd figure it all out before rollover. It's a fine shot. Not bad. Not great. Not like the one I came SO CLOSE to entering...
I thought I could get it done in time but... I came so close, SO CLOSE!!!
I figured out that I could convert the NEFs to TIFFs through xnView,and then process as usual. And I had such a great shot. But my laptop couldn't handle the size of the files and even though we made it back to the hotel with an hour to get it done, the seconds ticked away while my PS froze. Seriously. Did I mention I was SOOOOOO CLOSE!!!!!!
Without a doubt, this has been the most frustrating challenge for me EVER!!!
