While I thought my entry was the stronger image, I thought these may have had stronger diagonal components:
 
Generally, when trying to decide between entering an image with a stronger connection to the challenge theme and an image that is generally stronger but has a weaker connection to the theme I tend to pick stronger image. I am not sure it always scores better, but I usually feel better about my entry.
