I was watching this Sunday's marathon when I realized --hey! it's always summer on that show. For 5 years. If I was one of the survivors, I'd be thinking about how to survive the winter. They never talk about winter. Can zombies freeze to death?
Other than that, it all seems pretty believable ;)

It's in the southern US though, so I don't think there is much freezing anyway. In northern climes I would expect the zombies to freeze solid in the winter and thaw out again in the spring. Of course, any show based on this would basically amount to watching people try to forage for food.
Yes, I suppose...still, if I was there I'd do more than wander around trying to stay alive. If the zombies were frozen solid, they'd be low-risk minimal effort to kill.
But that's what's so entertaining about apocalypse movies. It gets life down to the basics with no distractions.

what makes the show so compelling isn't the zombies (that's how it started) by now though the zombies are an inconvenience, it actually drives me nuts when they still use the whole "oh crap, its a hoard of zombies attacking" to make a tense situation and then kill off some character.
I'm much more into the aspect of the roaming pods of human gangs and how they've become savages in a lawless society. The whole Terminus arc was just beyond f***ked up but I wanted it to last longer, they revealed it way too soon, like in the first season 5 episode.
I'm hoping they stick with he town aspect for a bit.
I haven't seen a huge amount of the tv series. I thought the first season was ok but gave up halfway through the second as i thought it was so bad. Someone persuaded me to go back to it though and i really liked the third season so am looking forward to catching up with the rest.
I have, however, been reading the comic since the first issue years ago. Just read the latest... issue 146... last night. It's not a brilliant comic but it's pretty good consistantly and i like the soap aspect of an ongoing monthly read. It is far far ahead time wise than the tv series and it has done some really interesting things with the whole end of the world/ zombie apocalypse scenario. It's interesting to see how much the tv series uses and how much it changes from the comic.
The zombies are not what the show is about, I agree. Not about foraging for food, either. More about finding a safe place to sleep, which is what Terminus was. The problem is always other humans. Waking up still alive depends on how good a person is at knowing who to kill instantly & who might be a good member of your gang. Same as now, we just have many more distractions.
And another thing--where are the gangs of feral children? They would adapt much more quickly without parents, if they stayed alive. The 2 little blond girls were promising at first, but they fizzled out.
I finished up the first "Fear the Walking Dead" and I like the idea of discovering how this whole thing went down. It seems pretty unbelievable that slow-moving zombies could overwhelm a civilization of more agile, more intelligent humans (without some air-born contagion or something) ... Looking forward to how they piece it together. Seriously, if you only become a zombie by being bitten by one or by dying .. how hard could it be! ;)
Perhaps the point is that FEAR itself is what ends up unwinding and fragmenting the society. So the show is aptly named ...
It felt logical to me that the first few people who figure out what's going on are ridiculed into silence. And that they are teenagers. It wouldn't be obvious, at first, that the zombie apocalypse has started. When you get past denial & face the truth, it's because you're lying on the ground having your face chewed off.
People probably wouldn't accept the truth of it until forced to by circumstances that can no longer be ignored...and then, if they weren't dead, they'd panic & over-react. So yeah, fear. What puzzles me is the absence of the military.
I like the series. The last two seasons haven't been my favorite. Although they did pick it up a bit toward the end of the last. I feel the same as Mike not sure where they are going with it. I feel similar now to how I felt when I was watching Lost. The episodes just started getting pointless and drawn out and you got the impression that the writers are just trying to fill the time until they figure out where to go next with it. All in all it is the series I look forward to the most. I don't have a cable or satellite subscription so the only tv we get is on amazon prime or netflix. The walking dead is one of the few shows I will pay to watch each episode as it comes out.

I sometimes question whether the NRA puts money into that show. If there's ever been a glorification of weapons (sorry, that rant is another thread ;) ...

I want a crossbow. It's portable, quiet & you don't get blood on your clothes.
A crossbow is very slow to reload -- it is best suited for defense from within a fortress setting ... a good longbow is about as powerful and can get off 4-6 more shots/minute (even if you stop to aim) than a crossbow, it's lighter and more suitable for use in the open ... however you'll need to pump up your back/shoulder/arm muscles!

I disagree. An AR-15 and a few sidearms is the way to go. And, of course the Gerber Kit, as seen on the show, for those times when they get up close.
