Has it been considered in the past to limit the number of entries in any particular challenge? With the "Parts" challenge topping over 300 entries it seems a tad unwieldy to go through and vote/critique all of them...especially for those with slower internet access.
Perhaps if the challenges were also geared toward the 'challenge' of being one of the first, say, 100 entries to qualify?
i don't like that at all... then people will just post place-holder entries (because your entry can be changed at any time), so it will be left up to the first 100 people to see what the challenge is to enter. That doesn't seem fair, taking into consideration time zones and such.
The largest numbers of entries for a challenge is over 400. And judging by the varing "number of votes received" for any given picture it seems that a lot of people don't vote on all the pictures anyway.
What if the 'replace' function is eliminated? I don't know of too many other challenges/contests that allow a change in entry once it has been entered that almost seems to border on unfair cheating...people should only submit their 'final' work.

I don't agree. Say you take a pic, think it's your best effort, and then the next day you take a spontaneous pic that you think fits the challenge better, and you can't submit it?
Until the entry deadline comes to a close, you are free to submit, unsubmit, resubmit whatever you want. Cheating would be seeing someone elses entry and changing yours accordingly. Not replacing your own good work with better.
hasn't it been said that in general, the quality of the photography would godown rather than up; I guess we need the statistics people to let us know where in the submissions the winners enter? all within 1 day? I doubt it. This isn't about speed, (you get one full week...)
So limiting the contest by tome, for the foregoing reasons, does not improve the quality of the shots entered, which in my opinion, is more important than being able to judge all the entries.
I think that putting an entry limit on challenge entries would be bad.
I'd suggest shortening the entry window to 4 days rather then 7 to limit the number of entries. Or... use more specific or challenging challenge topics.
Considering the number of people registered on this site, it's a good thing that only a small number of them, relatively, participate in a challenge. If a challenge gets 500 entries, that's not even a 2% participation rate from the site, so I guess we should count our blessings in that regard. On the other hand, the more people that enter, the more good shots...and bad shots...we will see.
also think that the more people submit, the more voters there are too... people are more tempted to vote if their work is in, just to see what their against.
Wow - Parts is now one of the largest challenges there's been! Just a brief look at the Challenge History page confirmed this. Oh, well . . more votes and comments, right?
The huge number of entries doesn't surprise me on this one since the field is wide open. I have discovered while thinking about what to enter for this challenge that absolutely everything is "part" of something. I challenge anyone to post the name of something that is not part of something else. Can anyone do it?

I guess the molecular scientists might make a good argument, but even then . . . lol I think we will see the word "part" in many titles, also.

I plead guilty to that, my entry is A part of ..... heh, let you know next week :)
Do you think it will keep my vote down? :o
I acutally like my entry a whole lot, and hope it does well. I also hope not many came up with the same idea, it seems rather obvious in hindsight.
in my understanding the universe is the sum of everything in existence, hence everything is a part of the universe, but the universe not a part of anything bigger

I would certainly hope that having the word part in your title wouldn't make a bit of difference. But then, I am constantly surprised at DPC!
I'd say we could lessen the number of pictures we need to vote on during the large-submission challenges. Or, another idea - make everybody who submitted for the challenge vote. I'm sure some people just like looking at their own scores, but don't bother to vote on anybody else's. Disqualify them if they don't vote in their own challenge.

what if you dont have time? its bettre not voting than just voting not to get disqualified.

So I guess Everything is apart of the universe! - so really - taking a picture of a whole object still is clasified as part of the Universe?
So What im asking: Is there anything that isn't classified as a part of something else ie: Part of the Universe?
