i couldn't find the actual number.. but didn;t this project cost like 20 million in the first place? Kinda funny to spend 20 mil. only to win 10 mil.. There were a few "less expensive" crafts i would have liked to see win this one instead..

That "Virgin" logo don't come for free...plus, this is only the beginning of the story. That 20 million wasn't invested to win the X-Prize...

I've heard people say the prize is functioning as a kind of benchmark ... that now that this has been done, private investors/venture capitalists will be assured enough of the feasability of the project to start putting more money into it.
Virgin already has plans to exploit space tourism:
"Space ShipOne and its mother ship, the White Knight, featured a new paint job promoting Virgin Group, Richard Branson's firm, which recently announced a deal to license the SpaceShipOne technology for a fleet of commercial spacecraft ..."
i'm all for it :) i did some conceptual 3d designs for a company hoping to bank on space tourim a few years back.. it's still around, but the interest hasn't been very big for investors.. hopefully this gives it a kick ( Space Island Group was the company.. i'd go back to working for them in a second when they get the invetments worked out.. //www.spaceislandgroup.com/home.html )

I'd blow the $200,000 to go, absolutely, if I had it. I figure at $3 for a latte, if I give up latte's I'll have enough to go in about ... let's see ... 200 years.
