I just want to add a 2015 folder into the lightroom catalogue but can't seem to do it.
I have 2015 files in my 2014 folder. I know I need to move them within lightroom for everything to transfer but I'm having trouble creating a new folder to move the date folders to.
Can anyone advise how I do this (this is what caused the problem originally and I just freaked out big time).
I'm not sure about Lightroom, re it's library, but with iPhoto, you just close iPhoto, and hold the "Option" key while you reopen iPhoto.
A popup asks which library do you want to use. It's worth a try.
ETA Another possibility is to use "Finder" to locate the original library for LR, then open it from there.
From the way you are describing it it sounds like you do not need to freak out and that the restore is unnecessary :) Sounds like you just created a new catalogue.From what you are saying I doubt you have deleted the old one. After the restoring is finished, do what Giles said. You should find your old catalogue under 'Open Recent' if it does not open automatically after the restoring.
I'm not quite sure what you mean in regards to creating a new folder in your catalogue. This is how I have my work organised.
Are these the kind of folders you were thinking about? If so, then adding a new folder is easy
Picture 1. Click the "+ button" and "add folder"
Picture 2. Click "New Folder" in bottom left corner of the window that will open. (Name it 2015 and click create)
Picture 3. The 2015 folder should now have been created. "Choose" it
Picture 4. Back in Lightroom you will have an empty folder (obviously) and you should see your new folder under the 2014
Picture 5 and 6. Just drag the 2014 subfolder that contains your 2015 files into the new 2015 folder
This will also move the actual files on your hard drive. Hope this helps. Or did you perhaps mean a new "Smart Collection"?
I see that you edited out your original question. It would be useful if you left it in, as an archive of the problem for anyone else in the future to reference this thread if they have a similar issue.
