How do I find the windows registry (product) key on xp? It's for a friends computer....

If you are looking for your serial number, it is under My Computer/Properties. If you are looking for the installation key, it is on a label on the CD sleeve.If XP came preinstalled on the computer, it should be on a label, most likely attached to the case but also possibly in the documentation.
I'm trying to think of a, sorry to say it, legit reason for it.
Have u ever lost a cover for a cd? Have u ever lost a manual? maby this guy want's to reinstall windows and he can not find his Activation key.
You can call MS [what a joy] and they will tell you the key code for that computer. WinXp ties the computers serial number with the key code so no one call install the same CD on another computer without having a different code. Just tell them what happened, they will ask for the serial number and verify some information and then give you the code [original]. It happened to a friend of mine, he lost his key code. It's a pain to do it this way but they will help you. Hope this helps.
