Though not absolute, it largely depends on whether your current phone/carrier is gsm or cdma, and likewise for your future carrier. Easiest scenario is that you are on a gsm system (at&t, t-mobile). You could then simply switch out the sim card and replace it with your new, syrupy one... provided, of course, they allow you to unlock it. (I'd wager deployed military get a free pass on this.) You may need to buy out the phone balance if it's relatively new.
Verizon or sprint would be much more difficult if not impossible, depending on your phone. |
