My brother bought a 5D Mark 3 and he showed me that lenses will not autofocus in any mode but auto. I tried looking thru the menus and googling it but I can't figure it out. Anyone know how to fix this?
First thing to do is to do a reset to factory defaults. You never know how the previous owner had it configured, and you want to start from fresh, the way that Canon intended you to receive the camera.
If you have a problem after the reset to default state, then it is likely that there is a real problem.
Well, that's not good then. If all lenses are behaving this way, I would suggest that he call Canon support and work through it with them. It is possible that there is a problem with the camera body. It's also possible that we're overlooking something...
Sold a Canon 40D recently and the buyer wanted to return it as all lenses appeared out of focus through viewfinder. Google search helped me discover his problem was the dioper needed adjusting. Doesn't sound like the same issue here though but thought worth a mention
i though my 60D had a autofocus issue, but it turns out the hand grip i used why causing me to hit the button on the back and that would kill the focus.
the grip has the same button, as well as a shutter release,maybe its malfunctioning? try taking it off.
