I'm trying to load my image for Halloween and when I upload and preview my image its only a tiny thumbnail?? I resized jpeg image in photoshop to 1200 longest side with a resolution of 240ppi and have also tried with 72ppi. I think the size is coming up at around 135kb.. What am I doing wrong, I don't think this has happened to me before..
Not sure how to do that I normally just change image size in photoshop, I did just try now to save for web changed size to 1200 increased some other slider that increased kb but still max size was only just under 300kb. It also said my file was to large to use save for web to start. Oh well, as time is running out ill keep trying but Im going to post my thumbnail anyway, Thanks for your suggestion.
I'm going to do this from memory, sorry I'm only on my phone so I don't have access to ps to get the steps.
1- resize image you've done this to 1200
2 - go to save for web
3- select optimum file size (I think this is what it's called)
4- select 700k
5- save for web
I have tried 240ppi and 72ppi I go to save for web and devices. I have ticked optimized and put in maximum but still it only increases my file to 209kb. I cant see any option where I can choose a size only the quality. I am using CS5 My original file was really large, I have flattened my image thinking this might decrease Mb not sure what else to try.
Yes, save the starting JPG file, then work on resizing it. I've heard tell that if your file is very large to begin, it is good to resize it in steps.
Take a look around in the resize dialog box in Photoshop. There are options in there that might help. Then go to save for web. In the upper right corner is a little thing you can click on to get a menu of choices, pick your file size in there by picking Optimize to File Size. Pick a number just below 700, like 698. Check your file size to be sure it's 700 or lower.
Yes found the little box and resized to 700kb uploaded again but alas still only a tiny thumbnail.. Thanks for all your help guys I just don't know what more I can do.

There are certain edge cases where the automatic resizer can't do anything. Some examples:
- if you enter a 1200x1200 image that exceeds 700kb, it will fail because there's nothing to resize, so there will be no reduction in file size without changing the compression (something I don't want the resizer to do)
- if you upload a 1201x1201 image that exceeds 700kb, it will be resized... however if the final result exceeds 700kb, it will fail
