I had a discussion recently with a coworker that I thought I'd bring to this forum for a little fun.
The topic was, what is the most off the wall TV series that you used to watch?
My answer was one that lasted from Dec. '83 to April of '84. It was called "Automan". In short, it was about a computer generated guy that could turn into a car and would help the police out in solving crimes. At the time I thought it was cool. At the time, I was also only 12 ;)
So I'll pose it to you. Which TV series did you used to enjoy (regardless of how horrible it was)?
The Bugaloos were so cool... and I also loved Square Pegs (Sarah Jessica Parker, pre-Sex), and Moonlighting, and Punky Brewster... and if I think about it a while I could probably fill this whole forum! :o)
Well, I used to LOVE Knight Rider. With the talking car that could do just about anything. It is really bad when I watch it now, but I really got a kick out of it when I was 10.
I'm exactly the same vintage as you Rob. Do you remember a similar series to Automan called 'Manimal': Simon McCorkindale transforming into a variety of animals to help him solve dastardly crimes? In the UK I remember a series called The Nightmare Man which was about a mysterious alien terorising residents on a remote Scottish Island...or was it actually a Russian super-submariner experiment gone terribly wrong??!! Scary stuff whatever!
Ahhh...Land of the Lost. That was my #2 pick. Its funny, my wife and I were just talking about that one last night. Neither of us, as kids, missed an episode. It was the coolest thing on TV. Saw an episode recently. ... ... Oh, my God! What was I thinking back then ;)
Doctor Who - a time lord that would regenerate whenever the main actor decided to quit the show and who faced such bad guys as daleks and cyberman and anything that could be made from cardboard boxes. And the most sad thing of all is I have friends who still love the show and they are even remaking it and filming it currently in my old home town.
There was a wonderful UK TV show called Nightingales - ran for a couple of seasons, featured David Threlfall and Robert Lindsay, as night security at an office block. It was mad. I remember the christmas show, where they discovered a young woman hiding in one of the fire exits, and took her up to the canteen, where she proceeded to give birth to a selection of consumer durables and white goods. Fabulous.

The Cybermen still haunt me in nightmares, 35 years after first seeing them! I could handle the daleks and even had a dalek suit I'd run around in (not today of course;)
As for my favourite tv show - does Red Dwarf count as oddball?
This was a short lived Robin Hood series I believe in the late 70's. The think the same actor played Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Knottingham. I thought it was funny at the time. I don't know how I'd see it now, probably corny.
Actually, I'm wrong about the same actor playing two characters. Maybe they just look alike.
