Effective with tomorrow's new challenge announcement, we have raised the size limits on challenge entries from 800px/300kb to 1200px/700kb.
Yup, you read that correctly :-) Challenge entries may now be a maximum of 1200 pixels on a side, and the file size may be as much as 700kb.
Since we are aware that this size increase will be problematical with smaller monitors, we will be incorporating automatic scaling of images to the available screen real estate. Since automatic scaling was first discussed in these forums, the algorithms have improved dramatically, so much so that we are confident quality will be maintained during any potential downsizing.
Please provide any feedback regarding the new adjusted 1200px voting experience late next week, as no changes to the voting experience will be made until then.
Enjoy! We welcome your comments and responses to this major change.
I have entered a 1200x800 image in the C2K challenge and my lord, it looks wonderful. An image I never entered before because the details just didn't work at 800px. I predict we'll be seeing a LOT fewer square entries, because 1200x800 (or whatever) is AMPLE size to revel in the details of the image.
I'll probably have to aim for the brown on this one unless I dig out my old hard drive, everything decent I've shot with the Fuji was specifically for a challenge.
