Wow....... this is fascinating on so many levels!!!
* the live span of a snail
* the habits (i.e. movements) of snails over time
* the live span of nail polish
* the (lack of) importance/impact of the environment including UV and temperature on nail polish
* etc etc etc
The lifespan of land snails varies from species to species. In the wild, Achatinidae snails live around 5 to 7 years and Helix snails live about 2 to 3 years. Many deaths are due to predators or parasites.
Love the classy camouflage! I bet the predators ARE confused as heck by it. What a cool reunion.
But, are you saying, there's more than one snail out there painted up like this...? Send out the search party!
Well, yes, maybe. I released all my polished snails - I always kinda hoped that a child would find one/some. After a few days I never saw any again - until now. I've let this one continue on its merry way so I'll see if it ever shows up again. (But now I have to rethink my plan to spread some snail bait.)
