That won't make me switch to Canon, I'm really looking for something smaller and lighter for travel. But his is the first Canon camera that has really tempted me. Mostly because Nikon has nothing to compete. Hopefully it will sell like hotcakes, and Nikon will figure out what there's still a market for this.
The specs make me actually think about being willing to return to the AP-C line. The 5D2 is getting long in the tooth. I just can't lose the wide angle advantage of full frame so I guess I'll wait for the 5D4 and hope it's less than $4,000.
I'm a Nikon shooter but shooting mainly aviation and wildlife, this is a very attractive camera... Hope Nikon comes up soon with a nice DX with similar specs or else I see some people moving to Canon just for this... Makes you think... I just can't get over those 10 fps and that buffer... Damn! :)
There's always the 10-22mm, Jason... It's a world-class piece of glass :-)
I'd hate to lose that 2/3rd stop compared to the 16-35. I already hate shooting wide field astronomy stuff at 30 seconds. When the camera actually comes out it would be interesting to see a noise comparison though. I'm sure the 7D2 would outdo the 5D2 even with a crop sensor. But how will it do compared to the 5D4? That's the real question. It would be dreamy to shoot milky way stuff at 15 seconds without worrying too much about noise.

It would truly be a great upgrade for me Since I have been working with my Canon T3i. I never had a problem with my Canon. All the specs look nice IMHO. I would have to see the full actual usage reviews in the magazines and stuff. One of the attractiveness of the camera is the weather resistance. However I need them to specify more in detail since there all kinds of "weather" meanings out there. Since I live in the Pacific Northwest (Washington), this would be ideal with all the rainy days and cool to cold nights. :)

Comparing, for instance the 6D to the 5D Mk II, there is a tremendous difference. The original 7D was the same generation as the 5D II. The 7D II is the first member of the "DIGIC 6" generation. Time will tell, but I suspect the noise performance will be a leap ahead. Still APS-C though, so I don't anticipate it will surpass the 6D.
You can see high ISO shots Here and they look impressive, but they are never helpful for night photography because they rarely include large dark sections where your can evaluate the low end noise. On the 5D2 3200 is already making compromises, but I'm often forced to use it to keep the time down to 30 seconds. I could goof with stacking, but you'd properly need an equatorial mount then and that is money and weight.

That's one thing that, if comparison to the 6D is valid, should greatly improve. The read noise performance of the 6D, and *complete* absence of any pattern noise, makes dark frames superfluous.
The only thing I can see as a huge advance is the increase number of AF points and superior AF tracking system.
Since I don't do much action shooting, I just don't see a reason to "upgrade" to the Mark II. Mak3s more sense to go to a FF for that princely sum.
Certainly for the price one could have a 6D. Quite a trade-off in AF system sophistication and frame rate, but if, like me, you don't place a high value on those things, the images that the 6D delivers are just superb. Be forewarned, however. The cost of really good glass for the 35mm format will make price differences in bodies look like chump change!
Anyone with a 7DII could comment on its RAW file support in Lightroom (specifically LR4). I found that Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter v8.7 has added support for 7DII but does it gets integrated into LR4 if one installs it? Or does LR automatically keeps updating its RAW engine without manual user intervention?

I would be surprised to see support for the 7DII in Lr 4.x; usually legacy versions of Ps and Lr stop updating their RAW support after release of the following version. Lr 6.0 will be released this coming week, so...
ETA: Of course you can convert the 7DII files to DNG, but that's a PITA in the extreme.
