I wasn't even going to enter but my wife found a couple caterpillars the last night of the challenge. I used this one since it made me laugh when I thought of it.

I was really tempted to submit one of the aperture blades, but ended up with the ligher.
The blades are cool, but I like the lighter better.
I like the aperture blades as a subject more, but the photographic execution on the lighter was better. I tried multiple times to add some depth of field with no improvement to the final result. Handholding the camera, the reversed lens, AND manipulating the aperture pin was tricky as hell.
Your "The Fiendish Plot Of Dr. Fu Manchu" looks interesting, but the bunny caterpillar rocks. IMO you made the right choice.

This is a stained glass candle decoration with the candle being lit and I was trying some long exposures with it..I just could not get it sharp enough and it kept blurring even with the right settings.. I think I just had something set wrong.. I was using the kit lens 18-55
I am still learning what macro is and learning about these techniques... I am really liking what Macro can do though, it brings a whole new world of photography in play for me and I love it. I plan on getting a macro prime lens with my upgrade.

The outtake looks promising if you could have gotten it sharp. Looks like some motion blur and maybe out of focus too. Were you shooting it from a tripod?
I'm sure macro primes are nice, I've never had the privelege of owning one.
If you don't have a 50mm 1.8, though, you can get that and a ring to mount the front of that lens to the front of your 18-55 and do some very close-up macros with that combo. Total price is less than a macro prime but it's not as versatile and the quality would be less. That's what I did when I had an 18-55 and 50mm though. The 50mm is a very good lens to have for portraits or low light shots.
Now I have a camera that adapts to Pentax Screwmount manual focus lenses and I have a set of extension tubes for those - everything in that mount has been cheap for a long time but a lot of the glass is good.
