I was on Ebay snoopin around and came across these black rapid straps..
really cool since I will be traveling soon, instead of carrying my whole back I could just carry what I need around like that and instead of on my neck.. I am not liking my strap neck now because its just a plain old nikon one...
Suggestions on those who own any of these.. are they good quality, worth having? I am hard on things, so my thing is.. how well built are the strap connectors?
I had one for a while and could never get used to the single contact point. When the camera was on my side it felt like it was flopping about so I went back to the two point neoprene style, with quick release clips.
I have one of the early versions of the Rapid-R. I love it and my leather hand strap. I recently bought a cheap handstrap and shoulder sling from Joby for my 7D (backup camera). Not as good, but like I said, cheap.
I can't believe stock camera straps have not evolved since... EVER.
I have an early version of it and I still adore it.
It had a little pouch for a cell phone on it, which kept getting in the way under the backpack, so I took it off and reduced the strap to nothing but a strap.
Having it diagonally across my body helps a lot, and I love the way it clips on so easily and the way the camera can be used in an easy smooth motion.
It isn't the most stable solution, but all I need is to put my hand against the camera while I am walking... only to stabilize it, not to carry its weight.
Thanks you, I just didn't want to think about putting the money into one if I knew it would not hold up.. I was just dreading carrying that camera around my neck all day and wanted to make sure it was worth the quality
I have used a black rapid strap for a few years now for carrying my second body at events and some at games. I carry a D4 and a 70-200 by the tripod collar on the lens. I'm not sure how many miles I've logged with them like that, but I'm sure it has been a lot. It's been used from my canon days and through the Nikon days. Still using the original one I bought. Likely 4-5 years old by now.
I have the much cheaper blackrapidstyle Joby(B&H). A necksaver. I suppose if I had significantly heavier gear that I carried oftener I would go for the blackrapid.
I have a chinese knockoff of the Black rapid called a "Q-strap". The first one I bought has been great, but the more recent versions have gone to a more flexible webbing material that twists around too easily, getting tangled. One thing I do like about it is the attachment is a plate that allows the camera to hang differently than the Black Rapid does.

The concept is wonderful and regardless of specific make and model, I find it much more comfortable and convenient than a neck strap.
My black rapid strap was awesome!! Man was it great just flinging over the shoulder, it went everywhere where I did except when I used the tripod.. the only thing I did not like was when I had to use my tripod, I had no straps whatsoever on it, and that kinda scared me a few times..
especially, taking that time to switch from tripod to the strap, otherwise it was great and it will be on there and used as long as I can take pictures
