Sure, you can let your camera pick your exposure, but wouldnt you like to know how to do it yourself. Pretty cool page on calculating exposures if your interested. Exposure Calc

My first camera was an extremely old 35mm, and it had no light meter. I learned photography by estimating the exposure from day 1. For many years I never knew what a light meter even was! In retrospect I'm glad I was forced to learn that way -- it has helped me a lot over the years!

good to know that if i need to photograph during a nuclear detonation, i won't be lost if my camera's meter gives out :-D
